SSC CGL Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission conducts The Combined Graduate Level Examination, every year. Posts included in the Scheme of the Examination are divided into two Groups- A & B based on Grade pay. Names of Posts, Classification, Pay Band and Grade Pay, etc. included in the Groups for this examination are:
Group A Assistant(CSS) Group B
   Assistant in other Central Govt. Ministries/Departments/CVC etc    CAG Offices
   Inspector of Posts    Auditors
   Inspector, Central Excise/Preventive Officer/Examiner    Junior Accountant/ Accountant
   Sub Inspectors    UDC
   Inspector of Income Tax    Tax Assistant
   Assistant Enforcement Officer    Compilers
   Divisional Accountant
   Statistical Investigator Gr.II
The Examination will be conducted in three tiers as indicated below:
  •  Tier -I - Online Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  •  Tier -II - Online Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  •  Tier -III - Pen & Paper based.
  •  Tier -IV - Pen & Paper based.

Tier I (Computer Based)

General Intelligence & Reasoning 25 50

Tier II (Computer Based)

Paper I – Quantitative Ability (for ALL POSTS) 100 200 2 Hours

Tier III (Computer Based)

Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi (Writing of Essay, Precise, Letter, Application etc.) 100 60 Minutes

Tier IV (Pen & Paper Based)

Computer Proficiency Test (for Asst. Section Officer in CSS POST ONLY) OR
Data Entry Skill Test at Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour
(for Tax Assistant POST ONLY)
This paper is only Qualifying in Nature!

There will be negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer in Tier I and of 0.25 marks in Tier II Examination.
Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
Combined Graduate Level (Tier-I) Examination would be common for all categories of posts.
