Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India was born in 1884 in Bihar. He completed his early education in his hometown and then pursued higher studies in University of Calcutta. He was a lawyer by profession. But while practicing law his life took a turn and he got involved in the freedom struggle inspired by the principles and ideas of Gandhi ji. He participated in various nationalist movements. In Champaran Satygraha of 1917 he provided legal assistance to the indigo farmers. He organised protests and public gatherings during various movements like Non-cooperation movement and civil disobedience movement. He led the Salt Satyagraha in Bihar. He was appointed as the President of the Constituent Assembly established in 1946 to frame the constitution of independent India. He headed various committees under the Constituent assembly such as Steering committee, Finance and staff committee, Committee on the Rules of procedure and Ad hoc committee on the National flag. After Independence, he became the first President of India. He served two consecutive terms in office until 1962. His contribution to literature is also exemplary. He wrote many books such as Undivided India, Satyagraha at Champaran, his Autobiography, on Mahatma Gandhi and Bihar etc. He was honoured with highest civilian awards of India - Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan for his exemplary leadership and service to the nation. He passed away in 1963 at the age of 78.
Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first President of India. He served two consecutive terms in office until 1962.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born on December 3, 1884, in Ziradei, Bihar, India. He belonged to a family of landowners. His father, Mahadev Sahai, was a scholar of Persian and Sanskrit, and his mother, Kamleshwari Devi, was a devout religious woman. He completed his early education in his hometown and later pursued higher studies at the University of Calcutta. He was excellent in academics. After completing studies, he pursued law in University of Calcutta. In 1911, he started his legal career and gained recognition as a skilled lawyer. He also started a National college in Patna in 1931 after giving up his law practice. In 1937, he completed his doctorate in law from Allahabad University. While pursuing his career as a lawyer, he got involved in the freedom struggle. He joined the Indian National Congress (INC) and became associated with leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. He was involved in various movements of freedom struggle, including the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement, for which he faced imprisonment several times.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a distinguished Indian freedom fighter, political leader, and the first President of independent India. He played a prominent role in the Indian Nationalist movement. He was elected as the President of the Constituent Assembly, overseeing the drafting of the Indian Constitution. He is also known as ‘Lion of Bihar’ or ‘Bihar Kesari’. He is also affectionately addressed as ‘Rajen Babu’.
