The battle of Haldighati was fought in 1576 between the Mughal forces led by Raja Man Singh of Amber and Rajput forces led by Mewar ruler Maharana Pratap. It was the result of aspirations of Mughal empire king Akbar to expand his rule over the region of Rajasthan. He tried many times to take control over the Mewar region through his strategy of force and diplomacy. But, Pratap never submitted to the Mughal power. Finally, a decisive battle was fought in Haldighati. Mughal forces had more soldiers and superior artillery than the Pratap’s forces. But Pratap forces with the help of guerrilla warfare strongly resisted the Mughal forces. But after a time, recognising the Mughal forces’ superiority and increasing casualties among the Pratap’s forces, Maharana Pratap decided to withdraw. They retreated to the nearby hills and Mughals claimed victory. However, Mughals did not succeed in their primary objective of decisively defeating Maharana Pratap and annexing the kingdom of Mewar. The battle is remembered for the valor and resistance shown by the Rajput forces.
