Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC): The UKPSC is the state institution authorised to administer the government Services Examination for entry-level positions in several government services in Uttarakhand. Established in 2001, the commission is headquartered in Haridwar.

General Information: The UKPSC examination is a three-stage process:

1.Preliminary Exam: This consists of two objective-type papers, General Studies and Aptitude.
2.Mains Exam: Comprising seven papers, including General Studies, Essay, and optional subjects.
3.Interview: The final stage where the candidates are assessed for their suitability for administrative positions.

The positions offered through the UKPSC include administrative roles like Deputy Collector, DSP, and other Class I and II posts. The salary ranges from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500. Candidates in the general category have 6 attempts, with relaxations for other categories.

Stages of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission Examination

Uttarakhand Public Service Commission conducts the examination in three stages – Prelims, Mains, and Interview.

Preliminary Examination

  • It comprises of two papers of 150 marks and 100 marks of two hours each. It is important to remember that, marks of both paper of Preliminary examination will be counted in preparing merit list of Preliminary examination only and these marks will not be counted in final selection of the candidate. Hence, only marks of mains examination and interview will be counted in preparing cutoff of Uttarakhand Public service Commission Examination.
  • Both papers of Preliminary examination will counted in making cutoff of the preliminary examination.

In mains examination, you will have total of seven papers:
  1. Paper I: Language Paper (300 marks, 3 hours)
  2. Paper II: Indian & National Movement, Social & Culture (300 marks, 2 hours)
  3. Paper III: Indian Administration, Social Justice & International Relations (300 marks, 2 hours)
  4. Paper IV: India Geography & World Geography (300 marks, 2 hours)
  5. Paper V: Economic & Social Development (300 marks, 2 hours)
  6. Paper VI: General Science & Technology (300 marks, 2 hours)
  7. Paper VII: General Interest & Science (300 marks, 2 hours)

Total Marks of Mains Examination - 1500 marks.

Interview Stage

UKPSC Mock Interview

  • The interview is of 200 marks. Basically, it is a viva type Q & A type series where questions pertaining to current affairs and educational background are being asked from candidates.
  • The Viva-voce will be to test the personality of the candidates. This test will be in matters of general interest and is intended to test the candidate’s alertness. For instance, Intelligence and general outlook will be tested. For BPSC exam preparation, consideration will also be paid to the bearing and physique of the candidate. It will be conducted either in Hindi or in English depending upon the option selected by the candidate.

Eligibility Criteria – Important for UKPSC preparation

There are certain requirements to appear for the State Services Examination. We will lay down the important criteria required for appearing in the UKPSC exam.

Educational Qualification

  • In order sit in Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, candidate must have degree of recognized university equivalent to the degree of Bachelor of Science, arts .Bachelor of commerce or of any technical subject.
  • Aspiring candidate, who is in the last year of graduation, can also sit in this examination.

Age Limit

  • The candidates should not be less than 21 years and not more than 42 years (on 1st January of the year of examination).

Cut-Off Marks

Examination of 2016 of Uttarakhand Public Service commission, which was announced in July 2019:
  • For General Category cutoff of mains examination was: 792 marks.
  • For schedule caste cutoff of Uttarakhand mains examination was: 637 marks.

  3. Indian Economy: Read Chahal Academy Economy booklet. Further, a large number of economy questions come from Current affairs also.
  4. General Science: NCERT books from 6th to 12th books, you can also read Tata McGraw Hill book.
