The 19th Asian Games were held in Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in China. India, with its majestic performance, won its best ever tally of 107 medals with 28 golds, crossing the three-digit figure for the first time in Asian Games history. India finished fourth in the medal tally. India was the best performing nation in Archery, Kabaddi, Cricket and Field Hockey and second-best performer in Athletics, Shooting and Squash. The 19th Asian games also saw the introduction of new sports including e-Sports and Breakdancing.

The Asian Games, also called Asiad, is one of the biggest sport events held in Asia with 45 countries participating. This continental multi-sport event is held every fourth year. The Asian Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee. It is described as the 2nd largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.

The event was initially regulated by Asian Games Federation (AGF) from 1951 to 1978 but since 1982, it has been organized by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). India again hosted the Asian Games in 1982.

The Asian Games motto is "Ever Onward".

The event conducted in Hangzhou in 2023 was the 19th edition which was to be held in 2022 but was delayed due to the pandemic. The 20th Asian Games will be held in Nagoya, Japan in 2026.
