Wars , Socio Religious and Administration During Period

The regular tensions and wars between Pallavas and Chalukyas:

• Pallavas and Chalukyas were in regular conflict from 6th to 8th centuries. Even Pandyas also joined this conflict, thus forming a tripartite struggle for control over the region.

• Doab of Krishna and Tungabhadra was the major reason for the struggle.

Aihole Inscription shows the constant struggle in which Pulkesin-II was involved in this region.

• Pulkesin II defeated the Kadamba and Ganges dynasties.

Narasimha Varman II of the Pallava dynasty defeated Pulkesin-II.

• Narasimha Varman II defeated Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas and Kalabhras. He adorned the title of Vatapikondan.

Societal and Religious Structure During this Period

• Priest was the most important post in the society.

• Brahmanism, Jainism, and Buddhism religions were significant.

The caste system and the Varna system were prominent.

King took the title of Dharma-Maharaj.

Rural and Urban Administration during this period:

The administration was divided into three forms: Ur, Sabha, and Nagaram.

Ur was mainly meant to describe villages.

Sabha was a place that lies in between Ur and Nagaram.

Nagaram is equivalent to present-day Urban cities. Merchants and Traders used to reside in Nagaram
